§1In 1947, Admiral Byrd led Operation Highjump south with 4,700 men, 13 ships, and 33 aircraft. The mission was scheduled for eight months. They returned in eight weeks. The official reason: 'inhospitable weather.'

§2Recovered flight logs, smuggled out by a deceased radio operator in 1983, describe a 'massive perpendicular ice formation' rising from the polar plateau — uncharted, geometrically improbable, and 'guarded by craft moving against the prevailing wind at speeds exceeding 1,200 km/h.'

§3Modern over-flight is restricted under the Antarctic Treaty. Commercial satellites pass over the region with curious gaps in their imagery. We have collected the surviving frames. They do not match any geological model.
